This is both sad and cool. Sad, because I came up with the idea this weekend to create a service that stores the music from your personal library and gives you streaming access to it from anywhere. Cool, because the way they did it looks an awful lot like how I would do it, and now I get to use it without having to build it or deal with the lawyers!
MP3Tunes.com's Oboe service lets you upload all your music to their site and stream it or download it from any other computer or device. The basic service is free, and there are advanced levels of service with reasonable fees applied.
They have a selection of user-appealing features including stored playlists, something called SideLoad which appears to make loading new music faster and easier, and a catalog of non-DRM, indie-label music at $0.88 per track.
So sad, yet so cool.
PS - As a side note, they had a banner for the BT/Thomas Dolby tour that just ended (if I only knew!). DeviantArt.com has a freebie track and video for download.
